Kevin Spacey on scientists as celebrities

"Some 50 years ago the most famous person in the world was a scientist. Not a rock star, not a movie star. Albert Einstein was his name."

- Kevin Spacey

As reported by The Independent, Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey summed up why he thinks we need the Breakthrough Prizes, a newish initiative to honor - and shower with lots of cash - scientists who have done the most groundbreaking work. According to the newspaper, some have criticized the "Oscars of Science" award for not addressing chronic problems in research funding, but others said that great scientists should be celebrated just as much as people who excel at sport, music or acting.
